The Different Games of Poker

Over the years, poker has been a very popular game. There have been a few varieties of poker develop throughout different regions. This page gives you a rundown of the most popular poker versions, and how they differ from each other.

• Texas Hold ‘Em- Texas Hold ‘Em has recently taken off in popularity, both offline and offline. In Texas Hold ‘Em, each player is dealt 2 cards (called pocket cards). There are then 5 cards dealt face i[ (the community cards), and from the 2 pocket cards and 5 community cards, a player must make their best possible hand. The best 5-card hand takes the pot.

• Omaha- Omaha is very similar to Texas Hold ‘Em except a player is given 4 pocket cards. They must use 2 of these cards to make their best hand.

• Omaha Hi/Lo- Similar to Omaha, except that the lowest hand and the highest hand split the pot.

• Seven-Card Stud- In Seven-Card Stud, each player is dealt two face-down cards, (‘hole cards’) and one face up card (‘door card’). Each player is then dealt three more cards face up, and a last card face down. The player who can make the highest 5 card hand from his seven cards wins the pot.

• Seven-Card Stud Hi/Lo- As with Omaha Hi/Lo, the rules are the same as Seven-Card Stud but the pot is split between the highest and the lowest hand.

• Five-Card Stud- Players are dealt a hole card and a door card, then 3 more cards to make a five card hand. The player with the highest five card hand wins.
