We are increasingly living in a connected world, one that is becoming more mobilised at the same time. Many people now no longer have home phone lines connected, relying on their mobile to stay in touch with people. This trend of cancelling fixed line services is not correlating across to businesses at the same rate, but we could see this trend changing.
Before you commit to recontracting your landline or setting up a landline in a new office, you should ask yourself whether you really need one. Here are some reasons why you may not need a landline.
You could get a 1300 number or 1800 number- You could get yourself a 1300 or 1800 number. These numbers can destinate to a mobile if you want but nobody needs to know where you are when you answer your phone. Chances are that most clients who call you will think that you are in an office.
You could use wireless internet and a laptop- Some people get a landline to host an ADSL2+ internet connection. These days, wireless internet services over GPRS and HSDPA wireless networks are getting faster. You could run your business from anywhere with your laptop and a wireless internet service.
Do you need to take delivery of any packages- If you do not need an office landline, you may not need an office at all? If your business does not need regular courier deliveries and you do not need face to face meetings with your clients, you may want to consider getting rid of an office altogether.
